Journaling

Journaling was my life saver. I was going through something I knew no one else would understand, so I turned to God. Journaling gave me the ability to sort out my many thoughts by eliminating the confusion and chaos swirling vaguely through my mind, having them solidified and brought into order through putting them in the visual medium of written words. That way I can better analyze them, making it easier to understand what I am going through.

Once you start to feel comfortable with opening up to God, you will be amazed at how journaling can draw you closer to Him through this means of communication. It allows you to relieve otherwise inexpressible burdens to Him; or express thanksgiving and joy for who He is; and even to be spiritually sensitive to His response back to you, where He can reveal to you who He is and not who you think He is.

I would encourage you to be totally honest with God, He knows our thoughts anyway, so there is no reason for you not to get real with Him. You can stop pretending, stop being phony and let Him know how you really feel, what you really think, whether you are anxious, angry, hurt or confused.

There are many things to explore about your knowledge of God.  Do you believe He is a loving God all the time?  Is He a “Just” God even when you experience injustice?  Does He care about you when you experience illness, tragedy, calamity, loss or devastation?  Do you know who He really is? Do you know Him personally?  You cannot hide any thoughts or heart-felt feelings from your Maker.  Be real with Him and He will be real with you.  He offered a priceless gift for you through the atonement of His only Son Jesus to enable you and to show you how much He wants to have a relationship with you. You can develop your relationship with God through Bible study, meditating on the meaning of the Scriptures, journaling, prayer and worship.

Open up, ask questions, be real.  If you find your mind draws a blank when you start to write in your journal, you can start with this:  “Dear God, What am I afraid of?”
