Can you imagine if we did not have a justice system in this world?  When we have been wronged, violated, offended, or treated unfairly, we intuitively have a sense for the need of justice to be done.  We have a legal justice system that gives the message to the offender that there is a consequence for breaking the law.  So it shouldn’t surprise us that God would have a justice system and punish His creation when we disobey His commands, starting with the original command in the Garden of Eden that would result in the consequence of death if disobeyed.  In God’s kingdom, the consequences are moral, they involve life or death. Obey God and live; disobey and die, for you have demonstrated your desire to rebel against God and therefor would not be compatible with living in His kingdom.  But in His mercy God gives us a second chance.
